For my theme is choose in the zone, pulling from illustrations I have done in the past few years during the pandemic. What struck me most during the pandemic is how many people are willing to put the lives of others at risk for their own momentary pleasure. It really changed the way I looked at others. So in this piece I wanted to replicate this. Capturing the feeling of looking out into a hostile world, I recolored all the illustrations into a much more limited, harsh palette. The utility pull functionally connects us together, but our connections become distorted when we take the lives of others for granted. The other main figure on this is a ‘pixelated’ woman facing the viewer, making us question our position in relation to what is happening. There are snakes wrestling behind her intertwined, which was originally a reference to a Caduceus. The hands I just took the top level of leaving them superficial and lacking any weight. At the very back resides the remnants of a sea drawing I did. The sea is to me most symbolic of the unknown, and since much of these past few years has been defined most by uncertainty I felt it applicable.
