Research environmental portrait photography
Luigi Lineri, shot for Art Magazin Germany
Environmental portrait photography and portraiture is supposed to be evocative. It uses objects to tell a story, and to use the imagery to allow the viewer think and essentially take in what is being presented. Much like the first image, the more objects that are in frame allow you to take in every little detail and what is available can provide information on the person who is in the shot. This image is overflown with the Lineri's rocks, which shows that one of the focal points of this image is to show there are many rocks and they belong to him, thus him being in the centre of the photograph. This is essentially a painting and what renaissance paintings achieved except in a now much more modern take, as it uses cameras for them to be executed.
George Segal by Arnold Newman

I really like this image because of how eerie it is. The inanimateness of the statues paired with the centre of attention, the sculpter George Segal. It feels like you're unable to focus on Segal as there are several statues that compel you to look at them - much like in the previous image of the rocks except there are less and there is less detail to see here - a black background conjoined with conflicting shades of white and grey.
I really like this environmental portrait because the piano is the centre of attention but it still shows that there is a person. It tells us that they play the piano and it's almost as if they don't want the attention - quite literally separating the art from the artist.
