Cosa spinge un uomo a mostrare al mondo cosa si vede dalla sua finestra? Forse è il sentimento di condivisione che è spirito del nostro tempo. O forse è solo il costante bisogno di comunicare che ricerca potenzialità per creare nuovi messaggi.
Le tecnologie web hanno estremizzato e diversificato esponenzialmente la comunicazione fornendo strumenti che permettono una rappresentazione immediata di noi stessi e del mondo che ci sta attorno. L'esistenza di un'applicazione per smarth-phones che permette a ciascuno di condividere una web cam e mostrare cosa si vede dalla propria finestra deve avere a che fare con tutto questo. Dalle diverse parti del mondo, gente diversa ha deciso di usare questa potenzialità creando spontaneamente un archivio autoalimentato di immagini del mondo in movimento.
Queste web-cam rappresentano generalmente paesaggi, città viste dall'alto, lungomari, aeroporti visti dalle torri di controllo, strade di normali quartieri residenziali americani. Ma in questo carnet eterogeneo di immagini c'è qualcosa di più: una sorta di tentativo di auto-rappresentazione attraverso il paesaggio quotidiano che diventa sintesi delle identità.
Il nostro progetto prevede di collegare dei tablet a questa applicazione e per ognuno scegliere una diversa web-cam in un diverso punto geografico. L'immagine viene poi zoommata sul cielo a riempire lo schermo. I tablet vengono disposti in orizzontale seguendo l'ordine geografico delle immagini. Il risultato è una fascia di colore in continuo cambiamento capace di oltrepassare spazio e tempo grazie alla luminosità dei cieli di tutto il mondo. La luce diventa così l’elemento unificatore di tutte le intimità di coloro che hanno voluto condividere qualcosa che quotidianamente fa parte della loro identità.

What makes a man want to show the world what he sees when he looks out his window? Maybe the feeling of sharing which is in the spirit of our time. Or maybe it is just the need to communicate that pursues potentials for creating new messages.
Web technology has brought to the extreme and exponentially diversified communication, providing instruments which allow an immediate representation of ourselves and of our surrounding world.
The existence of an application for smart phones which allows everybody to share a webcam and show what they can see from their window must be a part of all this. From different parts of the world, different people have decided to use this potential, spontaneously creating a self-fueled archive of moving images of the world.
These webcams generally show landscapes, cities seen from above, seafronts, airports seen from control towers, neighborhood streets in American residential areas. But there is more in this heterogeneous array of images: a kind of attempt to represent oneself through the landscape we see, which becomes a synthesis of our identity.
Our project imagines to connect tablets to this application and to choose a different webcam in each different geographic spot for everybody. The image then is zoomed on the sky, filling the screen. Tablets are to be placed horizontally, following the geographic order of the images.
The result is a continuous band of color in constant transformation, capable of going past space and time thanks to the luminosity of the skies of the world. Light becomes the unifying element of the intimacies of those who chose to share something that is part of their identity.
