The Pink City

My recent trip to Rajasthan began with the state capital, Jaipur, otherwise known as the Pink City. The city owes its name to the sheer dominance of buildings painted pink (more specifically, peach), a trait that made Jaipur famous all over the world.

On my trip, I stayed in Jaipur for only a day, and touched some architectural tourist destinations, along with glimpses of the unmatched natural beauty of Jaipur in winter. Amber Fort, Panna Meena Ki Kund, Sun Temple, Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar were the highlights of the day. I also happened to visit a local artisan shop in Amer village and witnessed their artistic process of painting fabric with natural pigments. Jaipur was a great beginning to a great trip.

This is Jaipur, through my eyes.

The architecture of Diwan-i-Am, inside Amber Fort.
A wide sight of Amber Fort from the main entrance.
A pigeon sitting on a small concrete dome. The people at Amer feed these birds everyday out of love.
Large egrets grazing in the marshland near Jal Mahal.
Stairs to the Amer Fort
A large flock of pigeons flying over Amer, seen through a small stoneworked window of the fort.
A sweet moment of interaction between the mahout (one who keeps an elephant) and the elephant-riders.
A semi-aerial view of the Sun Temple at Amer.
A couple doing photoshoots on the stairs of Panna Meena Ki Kund.
Intricate glass-works on the inner wall and ceiling of the Diwan-i-Khaas at Amber Fort, an example of the excellence of artists in medieval India.
Tourists on the yard in front of Diwan-i-Khaas.
The landscape of Amer village.
Exterior of Hawa Mahal, a photo which is a must in every photographer's album of Jaipur.
