Merrijig Ski Club, Rebranding.

Merrijig Ski Club, Mt. Buller is more than just accommodation to its members. It has a certain ‘feel;’ it is a comfortable environment. Members and guests who have been with Merrijig for an extended amount of time naturally have a emotional connection to the current logo, it evokes memories of good times with quality company. A logo steeped in so much tradition is a challenge for a designer to upgrade.

Merrijig understandably wants it’s loyal customers to retain the comfort associated with their lodge and their logo, yet they also want to target new patrons and invite new people into their community. The modern- ization of the current logo achieves this through the use of existing colours and shapes, this creates famil- iarity, through tradition.

Ultimately through my design process I wanted to cre- ate something that the current members and the future guests could connect with. A logo that shows the chill of winter and the warmth of summer. Merrijig’s cur- rent logo achieves this quite well colour wise. Colour is literally the first thing our eye communicates with, the addition of familiar colours creates a sound connection to tradition.

In conclusion, this modernization provides enough tradition to comfort long time members, yet welcome new guests. It’s colours are warm and cold all at the same time, the shapes and forms are both sharp and organic, the logo is asymmetric, yet still balanced. It is holistic, and in my opinion quite beautiful.
