Cosmetic Surgery - Risks vs Benefits?

The decision to have cosmetic surgery should not be taken lightly as there are risks involved with all surgical procedures. The risks associated with each type of procedure will vary depending on the individual patient's health history as well as the specific procedure being performed.

That being said, some general risks associated with all types of surgical procedures include infection, bleeding, blood clots formation, anesthesia complications (such as nausea or vomiting), scarring, nerve damage/numbness, skin discoloration/loss/ulceration/death (rare), organ damage/failure (rare), reaction to tape/gauze/topical medications/injections (rare), deep vein thrombosis (DVT) (rare), pulmonary embolism (PE) (rare), stroke (rare), heart attack (rare), death (very rare).

Of course, there are also benefits associated with all types of surgical procedures as well which must be taken into consideration when making a decision about whether or not to have a particular procedure done. These benefits will again vary depending on each individual patient's situation but could include an improvement in physical appearance leading to an increase in self-confidence/self-esteem levels as well as an improvement in overall physical health if the procedure was done to correct a health problem such as sleep apnea or obesity related issues for example."
