The Hunt for Aurora Borealis

The Hunt for Aurora Borealis

In our third day for Aurora hunt, we drove far from the main city of Rovaniemi to a river bed and waited patiently for more than an hour. There was no sign of the Northern lights as predicted in the app timings in the first instance. It was a cold night with occassional winds making it difficult to withstand the freezing temperatures. Initially we expected the Auroras to come from the Northern Skies but to our surprise they appeared from the Southern skies and lasted for a brief moment. The 'Crown' or 'Corona' as they call it was clearly visible with the naked eye and left us awestruck with the colors all around. It was truly a spectacular sight to witness them with such strong visibility and force. My tripod disbalanced a couple of times due to the strong winds and I couldn't capture the moment of the Corona but I'm grateful to see the phenomenon which many call once in a lifetime experience.
