THIS WORLD IS BUT A CANVAS TO OUR IMAGINATION

The Savannah Cultural Arts Center is a space for gathering people, inspiring students, and creating art. The overall idea of the design is for the building to become an art piece itself, while at the same time to bring what’s happening in the interior of it, to the city of Savannah. Therefore, the use of glass in large parts of the building, creates an interaction between the artists and the citizens. This concept was also developed with the idea that people go to theaters, to “see and be seen”. To achieve that, the building becomes a transparent entity that reveals the activities taking place inside.

Concept: Interaction & Movement
The ballerina served as an inspiration for the concepts. As she flows through spaces, she carves it, creating graceful curves {voids in space}.
To develop the massing and programming of the building the concept of movement and interaction were analyzed. With this we analyzed movement within the building and within the site; the interaction of the building with the people, the building entities, and the building with the site.
