This project is where I was to create an animation about how bats are misunderstood and threatened with misguided violence as being seen as pests, perpetuating the fear and hate towards them.

My animation aimed to get the audience to reconsider their views on bats and spread awareness through the backlash these bats suffer. I approached this through a fast-paced, traditional frame-by-frame animation, clean line art style combining realism and exaggeration themes as it creates a dynamic approach to the reality and myths of bats.
This project was developed under the guidance of studio leaders as a response to the assessment brief, not directly connected to Australian Museum, 2022.

I animated the ‘Lesser Long-eared Bat’, which was seen as the scariest and most intimidating breed of a bat. I used realism and exaggeration to define the bat from a human’s perspective. A bat’s small and adorable features contrast with a rabid monster-like creature.
