tsunami-outreach is a global project-based learning (GPBL) experience developed by Patricia Huettel for use at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh (AIP), with support from Azusa Pacific University and thewashington post.com.  Because tsunamis rarely occur in the United States, students may feel unaffected by them. It has been our desire to develop a connection by relating the cultures and including personal stories and images from students of affected areas. The secondary purpose is to educate students in the United States on the science of tsunamis; how and where they occur, historical information, and survival information. Finally, the third purpose is to provide a tool for international use that would accurately reflect the cultures of those affected by the 2004 Tsunami Disaster.

I led a team of 16 students to develop interactive education content for distribution on CD-ROM and on an accompanying website. We also created a multi-channel marketing program to raise awareness regarding the plight of those affected by tsunamis.
