What I most seek to give Pedro, my 4-year-old son, is love, is to show him that he is capable, that he can, that he is handsome, that he is smart, and most importantly that he is loved.
These days I heard someone say something more or less like this...
You won't always be able to be close to your son to protect him, and the best way for him to have a chance in this world is to give him a genuine way for him to have high self-esteem, to feel loved and to love himself.
It will be harder for him to get into trouble when he gets older if he has a high self-esteem, hardly he will get into a toxic relationship just to please someone else, or a job he hates to please parents or anyone, even he will hardly make wrong choices to be able to be in a group, or fit in with people who demand it of him.
I believe that, so I keep him as close to me as I can, so that later when he has to be alone, he knows he's all he needs for himself.
Pedro, even if you are not reading this, know that mom and dad love you very much.
