Re-visiting World War Two

Charcoal on paper. 2018.
6 feet x 2.7 feet.
This artwork revolves around the life of a marine soldier during the holocaust. Born in Nazi Germany, the piece highlights an emotional journey starting from his childhood.
The expressions of the soldier talk about how much potential a person has to survive trauma, brutality and violence and that some wounds last a lifetime.
The scene of the soldier on a ship has been adapted from one of Tom Lea’s works called First wave, going in: Peleliu. He was the only eyewitness painter of the war who depicted shots being fired and U.S. soldiers being blown apart.
