Rapid Prototyping UX Process

When time is less and work is more. A Rapid Prototyping UX Process can help in design creation at much faster pace. This would require the UX designer to have some prior experience on working with Design Thinking Process. As the idea is generated and a need for the product has arrived, how a UX person shall approach with the solution considering less time?

If the team consist of a Product Owner or a Product Manager, they can help with the documentation of the scope of the project if not provided by the clients. Otherwise the UX Designer shall develop a brief scope document to reduce ambiguity with the requirement.

Next step is to develop the Information Architecture for the application to be built, and with the time constraints the designer can skip a few steps of the ideation process such as Card Sorting, Empathy Mapping and Persona generation. Skipping these steps totally depends upon the experience of the designer, after a certain years of work (4 years) the designer develops this skill of understanding the user persona and the visualisation of the system behaviours on the back of the mind. Hence, they can proceed with the creation of Mind Maps and User Flow diagrams. Which are a very crucial step, they make the idea coherent and helps in making the clients understand how the data will flow in the system and how the user will navigate throughout that system.

Once the above step is done, the Designer can jump on to creating wireframes for the product, The mind map helps in creating the pages required for the design and the User flow diagram helps in the order of the pages. In wireframes either the UX designer can start with Low fidelity or start building the High Fidelity wireframe utilising the design libraries. A working product is anyway better than comprehensive documentation, this agile principle helps in showcasing the designs to the clients and they can therefore get a visual idea of the system and how it will look like.

Keeping clients engaged with regular feedback is crucial. Once the wireframes are approved, the Designer shall proceed with the Prototyping process, in which, they can start building the interactions such as transitions, hover, voice commands etc. along with the micro animations. Once done the design shall be forwarded to the clients for the UAT and subsequently must be handed over to the development team by creating the style guide, icons for export, extracted code if possible and a knowledge transfer session.
