Dakota Diptychs

In July, I checked off a bucket list item by road tripping up to North Dakota from Texas, to see the Stanley R. Mickelsen Safe Guard Complex, aka, The North Dakota Pyramid. Along the way I looked around some abandoned farmhouses, schools and even an old sanatorium. I collected bits of trash along the way to use in collages. Here are two roughly assembled diptychs I made in a sketch book after stopping for the night in Sioux Falls on my way back home. Materials used include a map of Iowa, a car manual, plastic from an Applebee's bag and plastic wrapping from some industrial product, possibly for shingles. They were assembled quickly with a glue stick, which warped the thin sketch book paper.
