SLOW IT, SPREAD IT, SINK IT, SAVE IT!

A glimpse of swales collecting & evenly distributing rainwater, organic matter & soil residues eroding from above the slope, helping store the rainwater below the ground.

With time the trench will be filled with a mix of organic matter & soil, composting together forming humus-rich soils which can be used back in fields for growing food.
Even when not collected, the soils will help the plants around the swale, improving the soil condition, holding on to moisture post-monsoon, reducing the dependence on irrigation and making nutrients plant available with the help of soil life.

A chop and drop of existing grasses into the trenches and plantation of pioneer species along the earthworks are some of the measures taken to increase the ground cover & build the soil of this property which has quick draining nature because of its geographical location (situated on a ridge)
