The product: 

Bearappear is a bear conservation association focused on helping conserve endangered bears. The association needs a tool that helps people learn about and give a hand to bears. Bearappear’ primary target users include people who are concerned with the conservation of bears as well as who actually encounter bears, both of them would like to learn more about bears and what they can do to help conserve the bears.

The problem: 

Six of the eight bear species are listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature ( IUCN ) as vulnerable to extinction. Bears face a number of serious threats, most originating from human beings including including loss of habitat, hunting, poaching, capture and climate change.

The goal: 

Design an app and a website that will improve education on the conservation of bears and encourage people giving a hand to bears as well as having promotion of tolerance and goodwill towards bears.

My role: 

UX designer leading the app and responsive website design from conception to delivery

Responsibilities: 

Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, iterating on designs, determining information architecture, and responsive design.

I conducted user interviews and created empathy maps to understand the needs and pain points of users I’m designing for. A primary user group identified through research was people who want to help bears.

This research confirmed the assumptions about the users wanting an app and a website for helping bears through collecting data for doing conservation research of bears and donation or adopting.

Pain points:

1.  More data for conservation research-People who are doing research about conservation of bears need a convenient tool to collect data.

2. Actual outcome of donation-People are want to see the actual outcome about their donation.

3. Attract more people join the bear conservation actions-Want to have a way to make people willing to keep helping bears.
