Amazing Animals: The Parrot

Amazing Animals:
The Process & Results
For this assignment, I was instructed to choose an amazing animal and basically run wild with it artistically. I ended up choosing a parrot because I have always just thought that parrots are such beautiful birds. Throughout this entire design process, I sketched, shaded, painted, researched, and transformed a parrot into numerous different designs.
Phase 1: To begin, I found a picture of a parrot online that fit into a 5” x 5” template, as this was required for my final presentation. I then conducted a graphite transfer of the original picture onto a blank page. I shaded in the outline until I felt it looked semi-realistic. I absolutely LOVED this part of the process!

Here is the result:
Phase 2: This phase was the gesture phase. For each design, I spent a maximum of a few minutes creating it, as anything longer than this would have defeated the purpose of a gesture. I used pens, ink, paint, and even Q-tips at one point in this process. Some of them came out pretty funny-looking (#6 especially), but I suppose that is what happens when you only have a few minutes per design.

Here are the results:
Phase 3: Next, I moved on to creating logos using the parrot. For this part of the process, I sketched out the logo idea I had in mind, and then once the sketch was complete, I inked it over making it appear much cleaner. My personal favorite and the one I used for my final presentation is #8. I tried to make him a bit more animated and friendly-looking than the others.

Here are the results:
Phase 4: Lastly, I designed the transformations. Each transformation had to combine the parrot with a character, pattern, or object. This was definitely the most fun, creative part of this assignment, but it was also the most challenging and time-consuming. Most things in life that are worth it though are just that.

Here are the results:
Here are my four favorite transformations. I ended up using the pirate for my final presentation, but I think I like the cowboy the best out of them all. What do you think?
