For our character design course, we had to pick a group of people of a certain occupation, design two characters; a protagnist and his best friend, and come up with various scenarios or situations the protagnist and his friend experince.
I picked the chaniya choli sellers at Law Garden, Ahmedabad. They are a close knit community of Gujaratis who have been selling hand-made chaniya cholis since the past 50 years.
The main character, Lucky, is a 19 year-old college going man by day and chaniya choli seller by night. His best friend, Sunny, is 24 and sits at the next stall. They both have grown up together and thus, share a loving, brotherly bond.
Its a long and uncomfortabe ride from home to Law Garden for Lucky in his rickety old tempo.
