Throughout my childhood, my family owned a cottage in Beaverton, Michigan, where we spent our summer months swimming, tubing, and waterskiing on the Tobacco River. Turtles would swim among the river, mud, and seaweed and bask on the sun-heated rocks along the shoreline. When I was 8 years old, I would catch and release these turtles for hours with a smile on my face and a sunburn on my back. This experience is reflected in the center cabochon of turtles. I included two Petoskey stones because these are Michigan’s state stone. The gold wire form mesh ties the necklace to the story, as it represents the net I would use to catch the turtles.
