[IP & Trailer] Anak Sumatera

"Their kind hunted, their homes burned, Ma and her two sons Caka and Tari struggle to survive. This is the untold story of the Sumatran Tiger."
Anak Sumatera is an IP created for two of my classes within a period of 5 months:
- Visual Making Project (Workbook), where we focused on character design; and;
- Communications Design II (Video), where we focused to speak and create meaning through visuals

This IP was developed based on the rapid decline of Sumatran Tigers over the years due to poaching, deforestation, and many other causes; planned for a short animated feature.

For the character creation, the three main characters MA, CAKA, and TARI are meant to represent Sumatran tigers, which is why they were designed with multiple native Sumatran influences. The character design process shown here encompasses all processes starting from research, initial sketches, up to final character design.
The next image below is a short 3 panel comic of what happened to their family whilst giving clues as to the fact that they are all tigers, followed by a video of the aftermath.
Above is the video created for the Communications Designs II class, with the item below serving as its storyboard. It shows an aftermath of the initial story, where Tari manages to escape the poachers at the cost of his mother and brother being taken away.

However here he learns that there are kind humans, park rangers, that are willing to help him at his time of need, symbolizing how humans, despite being the harbinger of chaos in wildlife, can also become its protector.
This four panel comic below is a shortened version of the tale above, focusing on the optimistic future that humans can give wildlife if they put effort in it.
