IMAGINE: a Mythical and Magical Exhibition

IMAGINE is a fictional exhibition of mythical and magical creatures that have become a huge part of many cultures around the world. With this project, I aimed to explore the different approaches an informative exhibition might appeal to the audience.

Objective: To inform guests about the origins of mythical creatures, the wonders of their powers and their impact in cultures around the world in an engaging and interactive exhibition.

Target audience: Children from ages 12 to 18.
The logo had to appeal to a younger audience yet still remain true to the powerful tales that have inspired many generations before them. The typeface used for this logo is Titania by Dieter Steffmann, with a subtle dragon that takes place of the uppercase G.
Legendary tales are often recorded in legendary books. The posters are meant to look like the covers of those books, books that are waiting to be read and explored, portraying a tease of the adventure with a silhouette of a dragon, a giant octopus, a tree, and a phoenix. This series of posters are to be displayed at bus stops and sidewalks.
For this project, I wanted the exhibition itself to reflect the epic-ness of a legendary tale. Using a floor plan of an exhibition space in the American Museum of Natural City in New York, I planned the path for the exhibition in a way that tells an adventure that guests can immerse themselves and participate in.

The space is divided into six sections:
1. the embarkment
2. nature spirits
3. dragons
4. phoenix
5. giant octopus/kraken
6. the end-of-journey

The rough SketchUp mockups are intended to give an idea of the atmosphere of the exhibition, with possible installments that would enhance the guests' experience. None of the graphics in the mockups are final.
The embarkment: Registration takes place here. Guests can choose to create their own adventure while going through the exhibition. Kiosks would be available for guests to enter their name and create a short introduction video of themselves. Upon completion, the kiosk will display a unique code for guests to scan into their smartphone and participate through the IMAGINE exhibition app.
The exhibition: The environments within would be constructed to add a sense of reality to the fantasy world. These environments would appeal to the guests and encourage learning through interaction with the space.
For a more involved experience, guests can choose to record their journey through the exhibition. Using an app specifically developed for the exhibition, guests can take pictures and record themselves as they go through their adventure. All the data will then be compiled into an e-book, their own legendary tale as a complimentary souvenir.

Below are mock ups for exhibition app experience.
