ASSESSMENT 2_PROCEDURAL ANIMATION

ANP100 - ASSESSMENT 2 - HANNAH KIM - PROCEDURAL ANIMATION
Week 5
Firstly, used boxes to create different motions. Controlled x and y value on translate create time variation on each box. Also, tried to change the shape of each boxes such as spears, cylinders and characters. Used the merge, mirror, retime and copy node to make boxes to move like a wave. However, utilizing bend function was difficult to express the angle and length as I wanted at first. Lastly, applied back ground music on the video, resulted in very first accepted outcomes from my perspective.
Week 6
Applied sound on the motion and created object movements based on sound variations. Cross-checked Motion FX and Scene to monitor Math and Envelope node how they affected the motion. It took long enough hours to understand the effects and outcomes to create what I expected. Utilised Bend and Mirror node to create a shape and applied effects on shapes so it could move like a wave based on the sound effects.
Week 7
Utilised File node to import a coffee cup object on the video. Edited pivot function to make the coffee cup to be rotated, adjusted light and applied different colour effects. Created a stage effect by using polygon which made it look like an actual advertisement. Studied how to do rendering through the lecture, able to create a short low-resolution video. Gathered inspired objects for Assessment 2 through a website containing a various range of 3D images.
Week 8
Monitored Youtube videos and a website “The Rookies” to gather references for Assessment 2 and found a music from Youtube Audio Library. Wanted to create a video such as a movie producing company’s intro video such as 21st Century Fox, Warner Bros, Disney. Reviewed various range of movie producing companies’ intros, created a fictional company called “Dream Pictures”. Wanted to create a dreamlike video like the universe. Therefore, choose the dark, dreamy music and applied purple colour to express a mysterious atmosphere and applied camera node to make dynamic movement on the video. It would be better if I knew how to utilise Font node well to create more unique logo at the end of the video. However, I am still learning how to use the node system and function to create better outcome at this stage, I could not make the outcome that meets my expectation.

The challenges were pretty much everything. I was not well understood how to use Houdini system, its functions, and nodes at first. Therefore, I had to watch lectures repeatedly till understand the basic and some functions to use. Additional studies were required to get familiar with Houdini to create the motion that I wanted. Especially, the most challenging part was the rendering. Firstly, the rendering time took longer than what I expected and when I was not satisfied with the outcomes, had to do rendering again which was very time-consuming. Moreover, utilising the Premiere Pro was difficult to understand at first, which took long enough hours to understand the system.

I personally believe that better outcome could be achieved if I can build better understanding on each program especially Houdini and Premiere Pro. More practice and studies on each program will eventually improve my skills and knowledge, reducing time-wasting especially, able to create better outcomes in the future.
