SKIN OF THE NIGHT

The first work in the series, Prunus Serotina. The sinister female controls you, the captivated viewer. However, she displays a gilded box with a moth, an insect of the night: this item symbolizes being caged within hypersexuality.
TARANTULA

The main character seduces others by using her appearance and wiles. She misguidedly attempts to control those who would strip her of her dignity. Since she never healed past emotional wounds, she is left vulnerable to assault. Despite her confident facade, she is controlled by fear.
Prunus Serotina discusses society's unhealthy sexual dichotomy. The central symbol of the series is a female who embodies darkly decadent sensuality. The pieces are titled after M83's "Skin of the Night" and This Mortal Coil's "Tarantula," respectively.

The title derives from the botanical name for the black cherry plant. The phrase prunus serotina may be loosely translated from Latin as "late ripening plum"; serotina may also be translated as "late evening." These associations play heavily into the moods I convey with my works.
