ART337  Project03: Profession Apps
Reimi Nagao

Project Description
We were assigned to develop a system of three integrated apps for an existing profession or life situation. Your app will function slightly differently on each device where it runs, but it is only required to run on two platforms (phone and tablet, tablet and desktop, or desktop and phone). This assignment explores how people use technology to work together and how to design interface systems that can be applied to different platforms.

Brainstorming

Reserch

Who are your competitors for this app idea?
The competotprs of this app is an app that matches animals that they can be adopted. Because the purpose of the apps is similar, I don't think users will download two similar apps.

What are the “pain points” experienced by users in this space? In other words, what are the irritations and inefficiencies of currently available products?

When actually protecting an animal, most people may take it to the hospital or take care of it at home, but it is confusing if people do not know the process after proper animal protection.

What new or emerging technology could benefit professions using your app?
Use AI to analyze and distinguish the faces of lost pets and protected animals. It helps the work of the people of the municipality.

Personas
Desktop

・Ann (28) is an employee of the ward office and is mainly responsible for animal protection and she works very hard.

・John(55) is a veterinarian. He regularly gives free lessons to animal owners so that they can live happily with pets.

・Johnny(46) works at the ward office. He actually does the job of going to protect the animals.

Mobile

・Kay(26) is a housewife and newly married. By the influence of her husband, she started to have a dog. Also recently she learned about the abandoned dogs.

・Misha(20) is a college student and loves volunteering. She loves animals because she has dogs and cats in her parents' house.

・Mike(18) is a high school student and often watches videos protecting animals abandoned on YouTube. He wants to support that.
Senarios
Desktop

1. You want to know when injured animals will arrive at your local hospital. Use this app to know the details of the injured animal informaions before arriving at the hospital.

2.You want to know the address found and information on the animal hospitals around it so that you can go to protect the animals faster. You can get the information you need to get immediate protection from the notifications in this app.

3. You help animals match their foster parents at work. You want to know the request of the foster parent and progress. You can use this app to find out how many new requests you have and how many steps you have taken to hand over the animal.

Mobile

1. You want to know about abandoned animals. You are interested in how they are protected and cared for.  You can learn how to care for animals from this app and the process of what happens after the animals are protected.

2.You want to donate money for the care of injured animals. So you would like to know the information and steps to donate money. You can see not only donation information but also various other volunteer recruitments from this site.

3. You found an injured animal on the road. You want to make an emergency call because you need help to get the animal to the hospital quickly. You can make an emergency call with this app and even find out about nearby hospitals.

Sketches
User testing-1
In this user test, I actually executed the scenario and thought about the page to add. I have redesigned the page layout more specifically to achieve the user's goals in as short a step as possible. I felt that reducing the number of buttons as much as possible would allow users to proceed smoothly to the page without hesitation.
Wireframes
User testing-2
Based on the improvements from the previous usability testing, I added a new page that I felt was not enough when I tried to execute the scenario.
Prototype
User Testing-3
The red color is very accented and used for important buttons so you can understand what is most important on the page. However, I don't really feel the unity of the design on the computer screen.
User Testing-4
There is no problem in executing the scenario, but I think it is better to devise a little more so that the scenario can be executed in shorter steps.
Final Design
Conclusion
This project was very difficult for me. Because I have to decide and make everything myself from the beginning. However, I was able to learn about the design that makes the best use of each device by actually creating an app design that can be used on two devices. What I was particularly conscious of was designing a design that makes it easy to see what is most important on the page. By doing that, I think we were able to guide users well.
