Poetry of Drago Gervais - Card Game

Every evening they were playing cards
and every evening they were fighting because of the cards
my grandpa and grandma.
Grandpa would smoke his pipe and be quiet.
when he was losing.
And when he was winning,
he would make fun of grandma,
and enjoyed himself,
playing his ace.
While playing grandma would make a dinner
standing by the stove,
taking care of dinner,
making a fire
adding the salt.
They were funny, grandpa and grandma by the table:
grandma with glasses,
grandpa with pipe in his mouth,
grandma winning,
grandpa murmuring,
or however it was.
And sometimes they fought,
that time everything was shaking;
but it didn't mean a thing,
because next evening,
when night fell,
grandpa would call grandma:
- Marriane, let's play!
