BJJ FLEVO OPEN – MEDAL DESIGN

BJJ Flevo Open International was a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu championship. With over 360 competitors in 2017, BJJ Flevo Open International was one of the biggest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments in the Benelux. The organisation asked me to design the medals for the fifth edition of the tournament.
I was responsible for the concept development and visual design of the medal. Henk Heneweer, the organizer of the event, was responsible for the communication with the manufacturer of the medals.

The design for the medal was inspired by the coat of arms of Flevoland. The medal represents two sea lions with a classic fleur-de-lis. The sea lion is a reference to the history of Flevoland and to the fact that Flevoland has been conquered from the sea. The fleur-de-lis is wrapped in a jiu-jitsu black belt as a reference to the sport. Five stars are located on top of the medal to represent the lustrum of the tournament.
