“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29-31)

In the context of these verses, God has been commanding his disciples “not to fear” those who can kill the body but instead fear Him who can destroy both the body and the soul in hell. He is telling His disciples to continually proclaim the truth and to not let fear creep in. He then gave this argument and assurance showing His sovereignty and all governing providence that not even the falling of a sparrow (which was sold cheap and somehow of less value) on the ground happens apart from His watch. And so are the things happening in our lives as we walk with God, we who are more valuable than these sparrows.

There will be sufferings and persecutions in this journey. But the ground of our security does not lie on men and these circumstances but on our all powerful God who cares, and who sees. Do not fear. Let’s continue to remind ourselves that Jesus died for our sins, rose again to give eternal life to those who believe, by grace through faith. And let’s continue to proclaim it in every situation and circumstances we are and will be facing.
