Anthophila

The Anthophila project, where photographs of pollen grains and bees posing in a variety of flowers are shown, arose during the realization of Pau Cardellach's doctoral thesis.

In the thesis “Sporo-pollinic analysis of honey and propolis, and their relationship with the environment”, the relationship between plants and honeybees (Apis mellifera) is analysed. Most flowering plants (angiosperms) need pollinators to complete their reproductive cycle, as well as pollinators, such as honeybees (Apis mellifera), need plants to obtain resources (such as nectar, sugary exudates and pollen) as a food base, and (resins) for the construction of the hive. The study of A. mellifera products derived from botanical resources (honey, honeydew honey, corbicular pollen, and propolis) is useful to assess the quality of bee products in a territory and to better understand plant-pollinator interactions.
