Inspiration from Art: Fashion Design Research Project
Inspiration from Art
This project was for my Fashion Design Research class. We were instructed to choose a piece of artwork, crop into a section of our choice, and recreate it using fabric as our main form of media.
I chose the painting PH-1033 by Clyfford Still. Then I cropped into a section of the painting that I found to be most interesting. Using muslin, fabric from shoulder pads, and acrylic paint I recreated the image.
Above is the cropped section of the painting I chose.
Below: Photocopy I made of the cropped selection on 11x17 paper, drafting for the final board.
Stencil I made from the photocopy.
Using the stencil I transfered the outlines of the negative spaces of the painting onto my final board.
First, using a mixture of water and glue I attatched my painted pieces of muslin onto the board over the spaces that I knew would end up being tan.
Then, once again I retraced my stencil onto the muslin layer and began to fill in the shredded pieces of shoulder pads which I had painted red.
Final Project
My project on display at Philadelphia University in Hayward Hall.
