This project was inspired by artist, Tau Lewis, who is participating in the 59th Biannual Venice Biennale, ”The Milk of Dreams”. Inspiration in her work comes from understanding and connecting with heritage and ancestral background from materials she collects and what made art. In her installation, Lewis created three masks representing deities or spiritual embodiment. One mask that stood out to me was her Vena Cava, 2021 because of her style in designing the mask, the colors she used which were reds and black, and she used to upcycle materials to sew them together.
For my print design, I want to make a deity or spiritual embodiment representing gambling, poker, and betting. Since a little girl, I remember learning how to play different poker games and enjoy playing them. There are positive side for playing like having fun with friends and family and using math skill to sometimes win. A negativity in playing poker is when adding betting to the table because a poker face cannot always help you win, and you would most likely lose all of your money or even go into dept.
