momentum

The momentum is designed to ease the everyday life of the elderly and disabled in particular, while at the same time modernising the world of shopping trolleys and making it more fashionable to use for everyone.

Meeting all the various individual demands of its users, the momentum is modular, with many different options of containers waiting to be equipped. It is also powered by an electric motor with a strong battery pack attached to be able to climb stairs as well as providing support while driving on the sidewalk and offering a smartphone mount to scan products at the store.

The design aims at having a long lifespan too, being as climate neutral as possible and meeting the latest production and technology standards.
Innovation

The main goal of the momentum is to provide ease at everyday tasks, which is achieved by the combination of the modular container concept and electric powering, constantly supporting the user.

By individualising the trolley with the different modules offered one can adjust it to their personal needs and shopping plans as well as various different occasions. Additional to the two basic sizes of containers they come as cooling boxes, bottle holders and with inlays for smaller produce.

While being attached to the handle of the trolley the modules also securely stand on the base or each other. Their bottom part fits exactly inside the thin rim of the part located below and keeps them from moving around.

An electric motor directly propels the axle and is powered by a strong battery pack that is mounted in the base of the momentum. With the power available it is able to push all groceries upstairs while simply being held at the right angle by the user and guided around corners.

Anti-theft security is provided through a fingerprint sensor embedded in the adjustable handle to unlock the built in immobiliser that activates itself after the trolley is parked or it detects the grip is lost.

The 3D-printed tires provide smooth shock absorption with their built-in flexible connection elements and are positioned in a triangular shaped and rotatable mount to give the electric motor the best leverage possible while climbing up staircases.

Form

The apperance of the momentum follows a modern and minimalistic design approach with clear outlines and some very distinct rounded edges. While making all components fit together seamlessly, the different shapes integrated in the momentum distinguish the functions.

All cylindrical bodies are movable, they all are able to turn around their mounting axle, while all parts with the same layout as the base are stackable on top of it and can be attached onto the bar that provides the additional stability.
Materials

It is another aim for the momentum to be designed as sustainable as possible, therefore the main material of choice is aluminium. This metal is completely recyclable and keeps its characteristics even after multiple reprocessing cycles, while only using 5% of the energy needed for the primary production.

Water and dirt repellent coating covers the paint to make cleaning after a rainy day and travelling through muddy terrain a lot easier. Rubber coating helps the handle to have a good grip and feel while being water and dirt repellent as well.

Meanwhile the tires are 3D-printed and have built-in shock absorbing elements to provide a smooth ride, especially eliminating small vibrations.
Result

The final outcome of the momentum represents a long and mindful process of considering all important aspects of a shopping trolley which has to manage situations without any compromise and support its user consistently.

Its modules make the trolley adaptable to as many personal needs as possible while the handle can be adjusted to the most comfortable position and the fingerprint sensor secures the momentum. The triangular tires provide secure driving even when going up a staircase and the motor and battery have enough power to push up the completely filled trolley only by themselves, just being guided in the desired direction by the owner.

Being equipped with an electric motor and battery pack the momentum has to be charged from time to time, which is as simple as putting the wireless charging plug into the power socket and placing the trolley right next to it.
