This Zoetrope is one of my course works. I'm a big fan of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. So I came out with the idea to recreate a scene in Ponyo as Zoetrope.
First, I imagine Ponyo transforms between the fish and human forms. The background is the sea with some fish-like waves like one of the scenes in the movie. After this idea is finalised, I use Procreate to animate it.
After that, it's the time to plan the mechanism of the Zoetrope
Later, I need to actually build the Zoetrope physically.
Cut the drawing out of the paper
Arrange their order and placement
Cut the sticks into different lengths
Glue them to the Zoetrope wheel
The Zoetrope outcome!
