Plantations in Sri Lanka are divided into plains and highlands. Geographical differences affect the taste and aroma of the drink. Mountain varieties belong to the category of elite: the taste is nobler, the aroma is thinner. They are harvested all year round, but the best teas are made from leaves harvested in spring and autumn. Tea grown on the plains is darker and stronger.
