Revamping the city through youths
FrankfurtOder, Germany on Poland border.

#FrankfurtOder has lived through all periods of urban development of European cities. The city has been in constant transformation since the end of the World War ll and it’s identity has been deteriorating. The population started to shrink and the decline has drastically accelerated. The rich and diverse offer of cultural life, great transport links and proximity to the Polish border is what makes the city proud “rose out of ruins”.

The morphology of the city can be noted as four parts Historic Downtown (Marktplatz), Viadrina University (Kleist) Productive Gasometer (Industrialisation) and Ecological Corridor (remains of fortification).

#ViadrinaEuropeanUniversity that really took off as an element of growth, inviting young people, academic knowledge, and considerable public and private investment to the region, was for a long time hardly seen by the majority of urban decision makers as a robust stepping stone on the way to turning the town toward a knowledge-oriented future.

Following this, the strategic plans for Frankfurt Oder urban upgrading has been made with respect to on-site investigations with local people and various stakeholders focusing on the four major goals:

1. Protection of environment sensitive areas
2. Restore culture asserts by historical landmarks
3. Manage urban infrastructure redevelopment
4. Improve quality of life by better educational and economical opportunities.
