Cover Designs Books/DVD

One of the projects in a design module for my BA asked to create two books.
The brief asked that the names of the two books should be selected from a list, one fiction, and one non-fiction. The non-fiction (the weaker of the two designs), is shown below.
The fiction book, (my favourite of the two) is shown below.
Media Archive of Central England (MACE) based in Lincoln, asked for people (anyone studying a design course at the university of lincoln) to submit designs for a number of DVD covers. The brief asked people to submit template designs, as it was their intention to use a similar design across the DVD series.
Nottingham on Film (1920-1985) was one of the several titles they had planned for the series.
The aim was to create a simple yet clear design. I first designed a minimilist front cover because I believed that the look of the cover would indicate that it was a compendium of other work, rather than portray the message that the DVD's content was recorded by MACE (Andy McKay).
In case the client did not like the idea of having no content being immediately visable to the audience, I made a second design which showcased some of the archived footage of the DVD.
The DVD cover designs I submited were put through to the finalist category and were given to the company to be judged alongside two other competing designs.
