A story about a boy who encounters an Australian mythical Bunyip.
By Myke Mollard
I wanted to take the Bunyip myth back to it's origins and tell the precautionary tale of playing it safe around waterholes and billabongs. Sam and Adam are best friends and both their families have taken them on a yachting vacation up the Australian northern coast. Narrowly avoiding a storm they shelter in a river mouth.
After lunch Sam's father and the two boys head up river to explore and an overexcited kid comes face to face with - a Bunyip!

Of cause, because no one else saw the Bunyip, no one believes him. Yet staying true to the original mythology, The holiday-makers soon hear the strange and eerie cry of the Bunyip as they pack up and leave.

Below are a few images from the book.
The first spread as the yacht sailed across the reef.
The River Mouth where the families have lunch. In On a Monster's Doorstep, I take the perspective of the wildlife over the perspective of the children. I try to give you the feeling of being in the rainforest.
The boys and Sam's Father head up river to explore.
As the boys head back to the boats the Bunyip lets out its eerie cry.
