In my Publication Design class I made we were asked to create a handmade book. I choose to take the originating poem of Mulan and place this story on a fan rather than your typical hardcover book.

I hand cut, sanded, and stained the staves of the fan in a reddish brown to match the rest of the red accents.

Knowing that my audience may not all be able to read Chinese, I included a matching scroll of the poem's english translation.

The columns of Chinese characters were individually ironed on a cotton fabric with a red accent hemmed on the edges.
