Taking this old and dying form of story telling, we decided to adapt it to todays time and age and narrate through it a story with a social message of child abuse and rape.
In a group of 4 we chose a local folk tale, narrated to us by an old grandmother at an old age home in ahmedabad. (the elective was themed on old age “bachpan after pachpan”)
Retaining the characters, the metaphors and the essence of the original story, we drafted a new script with the message.
A kaavad, narrating the adapted story, made to appeal to children.
