High Fidelity - Book Cover Redesign

Project Concept
This fall, our class was given a project wherein we were to redesign a book cover.
Out of the list we were told to pick from, I chose a novel which aligned well with my own interests.

High Fidelity. A book where a young man's notions of love are nothing more than simply anecdotes of relationships past. Where music seems to be the closest thing he has to "true" love in his life.

My first step in conceptualization was to look into the idea of sequential events that form a bigger picture. I had initially toyed with the idea of using the allusions to iconic album covers to represent each of the past relationships the main character talks about in the novel. However, I had encountered a lot of problems with this idea, so I stepped back and did some deeper thinking into my theme.

In my concept development, I had noticed that it was very common to use the imagery of a record player in the past productions of High Fidelity. I had thought about how I could incorporate it differently. How could I reinvent the record player?

Thats when I stumbled on the schematics for an old sears turntable. My brilliant "eureka" moment.

For these mockups, I had changed the dimensions of the book cover. Reason being I intended to fit this cover as a jacket around another book, for display purposes.
