It is Better to Forget

Personal Project: "It is Better to Forget about Yourself Altogether"
watercolour, ink and gel pens on A4 size watercolour paper

This was a quote by C.S. Lewis, in his book, Mere Christianity, Chapter 8: The greatest sin is Pride.

Pride in this context is about comparison - thinking that you are better than the others. A proud person always look down on the others and never look up at God.

There's plenty of symbolisms in this work. The girl was upside down and sprawling on the ground to reiterate that there's no way she can look down but to look up, in awe of God's lovely creation, fearlessly enjoying the company of Aslan, the lion king. It's better to forget about yourself, perceiving that you are just a tiny speck of dirt, immersing in God's magnificent wonder.

While the perspective of the girl is from the bird's eye view, the lion's from eye level. The girl is in the bottom-up, reverence posture, the lion (Christ) yearns to stay side-by-side, same level with her like a friend.

Birds represents freedom in Christ, feet bearing fruits, lithops are living stones (1Peter 2:5). The bell-like lilies of the valley on Aslan's back represents purity and the roses of Sharon below him have plenty of biblical meanings related to Christ.
