Assignment: The objective of this project was to create a functional calendar that juxtaposes the history of typographic styles with that of another subject. I chose to focus on the history of human methods of communication, specifically the devices invented, to contrast the parallel typographic developments throughout time. The size of the calendar, if produced, would be 12" x 24" closed, and 24" x 24" open.
Concept: I named the calendar 'Disconnected' to tie together the theme of communication devices with that of typography. While mechanical devices and typography both aid human exchange, the can also prevent real human connection from occuring. I therefore chose to focus on the more dynamic visual possibilities of disconnection with both the abstracted illustrations of the inventions and the treatment of the typography.
