"The Forecaster" was a class project from Spring 2012 for the course of Trends and Forecasting. This was a final class project for when I was pursuing a Master of Arts in Luxury and Fashion Management at the Savannah College of Art and Design. "The Forecaster" is a trend report for spring/summer 2014's Megatrends and how these affect pop culture, how they mold the zeitgeist of the moment and lastly how it will impact fashion. All these trends are based on current events, music art, technology and the different ways of thinking of different groups of people. This report is very graphic and uses a wide variety of sources to depict the Spring/Summer Megatrends of 2014.
The Megatrends that I predicted for the Spring/Summer 2014 season were Galactica, Monism and Play.
Megatrend Galactica
The 2012 phenomen adopted many positive and negative beliefs. Some of the beliefs are centered around the galactic alignments that happened in 2012. In the Solar System, the planets and the Sun lie roughly within the same flat plane, known as the plane of the ecliptic. From our perspective on Earth, the ecliptic is the path taken by the Sun across the sky over the course of the year. The twelve constellations that line the ecliptic are known as the zodiac and, annually, the Sun passes through all of them in turn. Additionally, over time, the Sun’s annual cycle appears to recede very slowly backward by one degree every 72 years, or by one constellation every 2,160 years. This backward movement, is called “precession.” This is why humans are going forwards as a contradicting act.
Megatrend Monism
Monism is any philosophical view which holds that there is unity in a given field science and spirituality. Accordingly, some philosophers may hold that the universe is one. Monisms propose that there is one God who has many manifestations in the diverse religious traditions. Religions that follow monisms include christianity, hinduism, buddhism, as well as judaism. For example in Christianity God is considered to be omnipotent, and has a desire to stay intimate with his creation. A commonality between these religions is having one unifying force and being holistic.
Megatrend Play
Today there are many specializations on how to become more relaxed, spiritual and in touch with ourselves. However “Play” is about relaxing the way we like and letting go. It is about finding happiness in the little things and going back to cartoons, Disney, going out with friends, living in a fantasy and blowing bubbles in the air. Back to basics is about finding the kid in each other and bringing out the best of us. It is about putting our best efforts forward and making the world a better place to be, where fun and excitement are prevalent.
