2018 Portland Timbers MLS Season On-Field Photography/Editorial Coverage
I was tasked with capturing the MLS season from the perspective of a local supporter for various publications available only to US military personnel serving overseas. They wanted to provide an alternative to AP, ESPN, and other internationally available sources.
I aimed to bring the feeling of the game to my photography rather than the sport hero highlight reel images we're trained to capture in action photography. I often shot on film and crop-sensor cameras to bring a tailored familiarity to the feel of the final images.
My approach to editorial coverage was as interactive and audience-focused as possible. I wrote short and grossly biased games reviews to provide an alternative to available coverage sources. I gathered questions for player interviews from any uniformed personnel in the crowd. I often included quoted words of encouragement and support from fans in the crowd.
