EXTRACURRICULAR
More than four-walled classrooms, thick textbooks, and lengthy lectures, most of the students in my school participated in organizations and events in and out of the campus.
PHYSICIAN LICENSURE EXAM - BOARD TAKERS' SALUBONG, 2018
The Physician Licensure Exam comes after grueling years of medical school and stressful months of review sessions. Luckily, we have a school-wide volunteer program called Pugad Agila. Literally translated as "nest of the eagle," Pugad Agila aims to provide support and encouragement to board takers as they go through this journey. The salubong is a school tradition wherein volunteers gather outside the exam venue to congratulate the board takers for finishing four days of exams, meeting them at the finish line.
PUGAD AGILA BLUE TOAST, 2018
A school-wide celebration is warranted for the passers of the Physician Licensure Exam. More than showing school pride, the Pugad Agila Blue Toast is an acknowledgement of the board takers' hard work as they persevered through years of medical training and review to finally become licensed doctors. It is a night complete with inspiring speeches and exciting performances, truly memorable for the attendees.
50TH APMC ANNUAL CONVENTION, 2017
Association of Philippine Medical Colleges Inc. (APMC) Convention to discuss new topics in the field of medicine, as well as ways to enhance medical training. Students also have the chance to showcase their research to panelists and doctors. The 50th APMC Annual Convention was hosted by the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health (ASMPH), and was held in Novotel Cubao last February 1-3, 2017.
ASMPH CHRISTMAS PARTY, 2016
Behind the success of every student are the school's faculty and staff that support them along the way. The ASMPH Christmas Party is an annual event that aims to give back to the teachers, coordinators, lab technicians, security guards, janitors, and kitchen staff. It is the students' way of expressing their gratitude during Christmas season.
ACSIS TALK, 2018
The Advocates for Consciousness and Social Involvement Society (ACSIS) is a school organization that aims to form leaders and to spread awareness about different advocacies focused on nation building. Talks about different topics are often held for the said purpose, and students are encouraged to apply what they have learned outside the classroom to engage with developing communities.
BLUE LIGHTS, 2018
Fourth year medical students, now known as clerks, will finally be able to step into the hospitals and be part of duty teams. They are given white coats as a new addition to their school uniform. Blue Lights is a coating ceremony wherein clerks receive their coats through their family and friends. It is considered an important event for medical students in my school since the white coat is proof of their hard work and is a symbol of their participation in the healthcare system.
PALARONG MEDISINA, 2017 & 2019
Palarong Medisina is a yearly sports event for different medical schools in Metro Manila and in Southern Luzon, usually held in a participating school's campus. Students work twice as hard to balance their academic responsibilities and training in the months leading up to this event. The winning school will hold the title as grand champions and will have the chance to defend the crown the following year.
