Macbeth

MACBETH

Three witches tell the Scottish general Macbeth that he will be King of Scotland. Encouraged by his wife, Macbeth kills King Duncan, becomes the new king, and kills more people out of paranoia. Civil war erupts to overthrow Macbeth, resulting in more death.

Assignment—concept of project and goals:
My take on “Macbeth” is that Lady Macbeth is the lead heroine in the play as much as Macbeth is. She’s not just “the woman behind the man.” She is equal in crime. She’s the one who comes up with a perfect plan, seducing and manipulating Macbeth to do the deed. She’s blood thirsty and very certain when handed the crown.

Approach—creative process and design:
The portrait of Lady Macbeth is of a beautiful, alluring woman. She expresses power through seduction, that will convince her husband to murder King Duncan. The blood on her crown represents the act of murder and the guilt that she carries. The blood around her eyes may be misleading—is it blood lingering from the crown, or are those tears of regret, yet to come further along the play?
