Sourrounded /Great expectations
The origin: One day, I made an improvised drawing
on my sketchbook
with a bamboo quill,
a brush and some ink.
Later I tried some changes and improvements.
The final image was part of a collective exhibition in Barcelona in 2012, a homage to Charles Dickens 200th birthday anniversary. I had to propose a fictitious book cover for Dickens work , for Penguins Books. Twelve other titles were illustrated as well.
See, the first image is a non-related scketchbook drawing. I was (still am) in an aquatic period- thinking about our intrusion in the aquatic world.
The second one is a digitally re-worked version, and it was THEN when I was proposed to join this homage projet. While drawing these sunken feet, it made me think of one scene from Dickens Great Expectations (the one I choosed to illustrate), that crucial moment when Pip meets the escaped prisoner in the marsh and brings him what he demands.
So I started to transform the second image in order to create the marsh scene and came up with this.
