There have been numerous cases of marathon runners becoming ill even after drinking water throughtout the run.
WHY? Lack of Sodium in the blood.
Everybody replenishes with water and nobody with electrolytes.
A study conducted between two groups of people showed- the water group showed a mean percentage dehydration of 1.1% compared to gatorades .72%. A study funded by Gatorade in 2019 found that people who drank their product were better hydrated than water itself. Gatorade has the exact amount of sugar to help recover/ hydrate you and not give you a sugar spike.
