For this hackathon, I decided to make a lightsaber. I wanted to solve the problem of the ones that you get from the store not being bright enough. I also wanted to develop my skills with Arduino and coding Neopixels. My project is a custom lightsaber that I created with Neopixels, some PVC pipe, and some electrical tape. Making this project was enjoyable because I really like Star Wars and I thought that making a lightsaber would be fun.
STEPS
The first steps I took were to spray paint all of the PVC pieces in a glossy black paint. Once those were drying, I started coding the Neopixels. I had originally wanted to use a button to change the colors but that ended up proving to be more complicated that expected, so I pivoted and used a potentiometer instead. Once I got my Neopixels to light up how I wanted them to, I wrapped the handle in electrical tape to give it some texture and make it look nice. After the paint had dried, I wrapped the main pole with the Neopixels and assembled everything all together.
