Puppet workshop for children 160 days after earthquake

Hand puppet workshop for children conducted in the camp of earthquake victims in Kermanshah/ Iran.
puppet creation is a way for children to externalize their traumatic stories and provide children with the developmentally appropriate space to heal.
Children were asked to draw a doll that they wished to own. then they started to make it out of materials which I made ready in advance. They customized their puppets based on their design. After that they divided in groups and had time to exercise their performance.
research shows that the creation of puppets in child trauma therapy resulted in the externalization of stories, emotional education, the ability to stay focused in class, improving social understanding and engagement, and the ability to explore children’s trauma at their own pace.
