Design Brief:

The goal of this assignment is to create a visually engaging Fashion Glossary that succinctly explains key fashion-related words & phrases, materials, design elements and historical references (if any) of any era, community or person. It must showcase thoughtful use of Graphic Design Fundamentals such as Typography, Colours, Visual Hierarchy, Layout, etc. This assignment encourages students to apply their creativity, research, and design skills to create visually engaging educational material that also serves as a valuable reference tool for others interested in the subject.

Design Process

1. Topic Selection

Recently the unsolved mysteries of Ancient Civilizations piqued my interest after watching a few episodes of "Ancient Aliens" but pairing it with fashion felt like trying to fit mismatched puzzle pieces together, until another source came into play. The source was a gameplay video showcasing the Ancient Egyptian Fashions Discovery Tour from the game Assassin's Creed Origins posted on YouTube by "Married to the Games". In the video-tour, the narrator covered various touchpoints related to Fashion in Ancient Egypt such as Jewelry, Clothing & Fabric, Grooming & Appearance, Cosmetics, Hairstyles, Hair Accessories and Hair wigs. The discovery tour became an inspiration for the Fashion Glossary.

2. Research

Thus, I started researching in detail about the colours, material, patterns and styles of clothing in Ancient Egypt. To my surprise Egyptians had also made stupendous achievements in the Field of Fashion. Just like any other civilization, the Egyptian Civilization also have many Trends, Norms and Beliefs related to Fashion. Thus, I tried to gain as much information as I could from the internet and to present my research, I thought of making a printable document that was foldable and consisted of illustrations and images to tell the story of Egyptian Fashion.
